The London Riots
Over the years London has been no stranger to the occasional riot. There have been many different reasons and some with no logical reason at all such as football riots. The London riots however felt very different and they indeed were. In the past others had rioted against greed whereas many of these rioted for greed. Whilst others had fought for freedom some of these people rioted for free stuff. And whilst some fought against injustice all these rioters brought injustice to the everyday man, woman and child living in these affected areas.
Looking further afield than London it was perhaps as shocking to see how it spread to some other major cities. Common thought and behaviour seems to have flowed through the nation’s youth like osmosis. It was as though the young people of the entire nation were connected to a main frame and acted as one. Well of course they did with the help of technology. For a lot of them technology will be their downfall.
Not only was it shocking to see the tender age of many of these rioters but also socking to see some that were not so young and well into their 20’s, 30’s and above. It was also shocking to see just how many dumb people there are in this country that would smash a shop window in the high street without even thinking to cover their faces in the presence of London's thousands of CCTV cameras or were they just being brazen?
What does this say about society? Have our minds been corrupted by the constant images of footballer type wealth? Is the economy to blame? Is the government to blame? Or perhaps the parents. Are there any solutions? We're not sure but there are definitely endless questions to ask.
Out of those who are not brought to justice how many would be truly sorry? Out of those especially the younger ones who do get caught how many of them will really get a punishment to deter them from future criminality and stupidity.
